GENERAL GUIDELINES AGAINST SPREAD OF COVID -19

Part 2: Suggested precautions in Senior Care (Inclusive Living) Communities

Introduction:

Members of ASLI have been providing services and care to the senior citizens for more than a decade. Many models have been evolved and adopted for provision of services and care of the elders in India. As diverse our country is, we have different segments of senior citizens needing different services and care. Members of ASLI provide services and care to elders from these diverse categories.

While the minimum standards have been laid down by ASLI, life in the retirement communities or care centres and the variety of home care offered by the members of ASLI are different. Some of the members are involved in various products and technology that assist the elders. There are NGOs and organizations like Help Age India, who are also members of ASLI. All are involved in the services, care, lifestyle, well-being and wellness of seniors.

No two models are same but may be similar. While there is diversity in all these models of senior living and care that are characterized by culture, traditions, food habits that the people from the city demand, the lifestyle enjoyed is what the senior citizens desire in these cities during their sunset years.

Home care is such an essential part of care required by a very large number of seniors. Many members of ASLI are involved in providing such care, especially for those, who due to age related illness, may be physically challenged or disadvantaged. There are some members who offer technology-based care for elders and offer variety of products to manage home care.

With longevity becoming a reality, members of ASLI have adopted senior care inclusive of living for the senior citizens.
