Sandhya Naidu is the Managing Director of the Curry Stone Design Collaborative (CSDC), a Mumbai based collective of social design practices, architects and civic planners working together with communities in need. It unites design practitioners and communities in a common cause: addressing inequalities using design and technical tools. Our design interventions focus on enhancing the quality of life of the communities that we serve. This requires a deep understanding of their social, cultural and economic circumstances, cultivated through sustained long term engagement with the community. We refrain from broad replicability of ideas or purely quantitative results and focus on sustained qualitative metrics. Our design process supports organic and community-led transformation by empowering community members to become decision makers while we play the role of being facilitators. We believe in the value of local knowledge and expertise. We aim to expand within and beyond India through collaborations with local professionals, agencies and non-profits. This allows for our methodologies to evolve and meet the unique needs of each client community. The Directors of CSDC have decades of experience designing, building and managing senior care facilities in North America and Europe. Leveraging this wealth of experience, CSDC aims to develop such facilities in India, bringing global best practices while also catering to local cultural preferences.
